In the middle of the Mecklenburg Lake District and the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide Nature Park lies the museum village of Alt Schwerin. As early as 1963 it became a very special, agricultural history village and open-air museum - agricultural history to experience, touch and participate in.

The AGRONEUM, an agricultural history open-air and village museum, gives an insight into the agricultural history of Mecklenburg from 1848 to the present day. The special feature of this exhibition, which was created in 1963 in the Alt-Schwerin museum village, is its embedding in a commercial complex with a village smithy, rope factory, Dutch windmill, cartwright's workshop and a large number of other residential and farm buildings.

Here the visitor is immersed in the life and daily routine of Mecklenburg farmers. The unique "Katenzeile" (cottage street), for example, shows rural living in the course of time:

  • Farm workers' cottages around 1870
  • Farm worker apartments around 1910 and 1942
  • Farmstead 1949/1950
  • original flat of an LPG farmer (1965)
  • knightly single-class village school around 1910

A stroll through the open-air grounds offers technology to touch and marvel at: from simple ploughs and large tractors to agricultural aircraft or the giants of the fields, modern harvesters.

Changing special exhibitions, play areas spread over the whole area, as well as a series of thematic activities and events - including some established highlights for lovers of machines - complete the offer of this unusual open-air museum. The cosy farmer's bistro with its terrace and typical home-style cuisine as well as the museum shop with numerous seasonal and regional products provide refreshment during the journey into the past and lasting impressions.
