Join nature and landscape guide Martin Hagemann on this eight-hour day tour and discover the uniqueness of this special landscape together. On the approximately 15-kilometre hike, we explore the diverse habitats in the National Park of Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft and learn the background to past and present uses of these sensitive landscapes.
From our starting point, Prerow's Nordstrand beach, we head towards the former Darßer Ort harbor with a keen eye for what the sea washes up in front of us. The port of refuge cut into the dynamic coastal landscape of the national park for decades and was closed in 2023 after 30 years of intensive work by the WWF. The subsequent renaturation of this area, which will continue until spring 2024, has restored the area to its original natural state in a very impressive and complete way.
After a short knowledge input rest, the tour continues through the core zone of the protected area, a geologically still very young dune landscape. Viewing platforms provide exciting insights into this extraordinary habitat and allow us to spot one or two animals. We reach Darßer Weststrand and can already see the Darßer Ort lighthouse. Here we visit the Natureum with its exhibitions and can enjoy the view from the lighthouse.
The museum café offers the opportunity to linger and enjoy a refreshment before we make our way back through the rustic Darßwald forest. Boardwalks lead over the swampy passages. There will also be time for suggestions as to what we can all do to help preserve this precious landscape.
