On April 25, everything at Rostock Zoo will revolve around the fascinating world of penguins. On World Penguin Day, we invite visitors of all ages to get to know the popular flightless seabirds and learn more about their protection in a fun way.
There are lots of exciting facts to discover, or did you know that there are 18 penguin species worldwide, but only 5 of them live in Antarctica?

Craft corner
Get creative and design great penguin masks, among other things.
Egg challenge
Emperor and king penguins balance their eggs on their feet to protect them from the extreme cold. Young penguin fans can try out how difficult it is to transport an egg safely in the egg race.
Stone works of art
The Adélie penguins, on the other hand, build their nests out of small stones and are not afraid to steal the perfect stone from their fellow penguins. Grab the perfect stone and paint it.
A day for admiration and protection
In addition to fun and games, the day also focuses on species conservation. Rostock Zoo will be presenting its commitment to the SPHENISCO species conservation project, which works to protect Humboldt penguins in Chile and Peru. Illustrative information will show the dangers that penguins are exposed to today - for example through environmental pollution, overfishing or the loss of their habitat.
