Workshop and Guided Tour: “Focus on Porpoises—Animal Photography: Between Observation and the Moment” with National Geographic photographer Lana Tannir
How do you manage to photograph a porpoise in its natural habitat? What challenges does wildlife photography at sea present, and what does it take to press the shutter button at just the right moment?
To mark the special exhibition “WHALES AND HUMANS: A FATAL HUNT THROUGH THE CENTURIES,” the Rostock Maritime Museum invites you to a workshop with internationally published environmental journalist Lana Tannir. The workshop will begin with her photographs of porpoises in the Baltic Sea, which are on display in a dedicated section of the exhibition. Using selected images, she will provide insights into wildlife photography and discuss the unique conditions involved in photographing these native marine mammals.
This involves careful observation of the animals, patience, and seizing the right moment, as well as treating the animals with respect in their natural habitat.
Afterward, Lana Tannir will guide participants through the exhibition section “Whales in the Baltic Sea: The Porpoise.” Together, they will take a closer look at the photographs on display and connect them with interesting facts about the porpoises off our coast.
The workshop is intended for adults interested in photography, nature, and the sea. No prior photography experience is required.
