Graphic novel "The Balkan Route" by Reem Helou. An exhibition, a reading, an evening of discussion. Reem Helou tells her stories - in pictures, in words and in encounters.
25 days. Three women. Ten countries. A dangerous journey full of fear, courage, exhaustion, amazement - and humor. "The Balkan Route" is an autobiographical graphic novel by Syrian artist Reem Helou, based on her own escape story. In 2015, she and two friends fled from Damascus to Berlin - via Beirut, Turkey, the Mediterranean, Greece and a total of ten countries. The work makes the realities of flight, survival and new beginnings tangible - with all the contradictions, challenges and quiet moments of hope. The panel discussion will focus on the perspectives of women who have experienced flight. The aim is to acknowledge their strengths, their courage and their power, to highlight examples of solidarity among women and to provide insights into their individual stories.
