On October 4, at the Haus des Gastes, Dr. Wolf Schmidt will present surprising, curious, and little-known stories from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern—told with a touch of humor and carefully researched.
Wolf Schmidt Reads from “The Other Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”
Aalbude and Zepelin are the cornerstones of Wolf Schmidt’s first volume—two place names you’ll read twice. The “Guide from Aalbude to Zepelin” (2024) takes readers across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. His second volume, “Revelatory Stories” (2026), explores the cultural aspects of the state. A total of 54 short and long episodes recount the unknown, the bizarre, and the misunderstood in the northeast—with surprising connections to the rest of the world. Told with a wink and carefully researched.
On October 4, 2026, Wolf Schmidt will read from both books in Graal-Müritz. “It’s important to me to present the big and small secrets of our region in an entertaining way,” he says. He has already held more than a dozen readings attended by over 400 guests. Locals experience familiar places from an unexpected perspective; visitors discover stories that aren’t found in any travel guide.
Dr. Wolf Schmidt, born in 1952, was born in Warin and lives in Dobin am See. He lived in western Germany for five decades. In 2005, he founded the Mecklenburger AnStiftung. Prior to the two collections of stories, he published *Die Kunst des Bleibens* (2012) and *Luxus Landleben* (2017).
Both volumes are available in bookstores and online. The episodes of “Wegweiser” are also available for free as a podcast.
