In the 2026 winter holiday program, we will focus on Wismar's Swedish period, watch a corresponding paper play and make our own Swedish heads.
During the school vacations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, SCHABBELL offers a vacation program for after-school clubs and individual vacation children. The theme of the 2026 winter vacations is "Wismar under Swedish rule".
In this program, the registered children can experience a child-friendly mini-guided tour of Wismar's Swedish period. However, museum educator Alexander Holst, in collaboration with this year's FSJ volunteer, has come up with other program items to make the museum appealing to younger guests too. Another item on the program is the performance of the play "Zank um Wismar", which was written by museum employees from the past. Fittingly, it will be performed on the paper stage in the "Wismar Swedish" exhibition section. In the play, Heini the pig, who has always been at home under Schweinsbrücke opposite the museum, explains which protagonists were in charge on the European stage during the Thirty Years' War and how it came about that not only Wismar, but also other parts of present-day Mecklenburg-Vorpommern fell into the hands of the Swedes.
Of course, the creative part of the SCHABBELL vacation program is a must: During these vacations, we want to design our own Swedish heads to match the theme. The museum will be providing miniature blanks of the Wismar landmark for the children to fill with color and life as they wish.
There will also be a public family tour during the vacations, which will take place on a different date to the actual program.
Registration is required in advance for both the vacation program and the family tour. Places are limited.
