Wicht Theater - Peter and the Wolf
Puppet Theater: Peter and the Wolf
A musical fairy tale by Sergei Prokofiev
Performed by: Wicht-Theater
Everyone knows Sergei Prokofiev’s famous musical fairy tale, which has been enchanting and delighting children all over the world for nearly a century. The Wicht Theater presents an enchanting production of the musical fairy tale “Peter and the Wolf”—a timeless story featuring Peter and his animal friends. The original music is used in its entirety. The orchestra serves as a magical narrator, sparking the imagination of listeners young and old. With energy and enchanting poetry, Jürgen Wicht brings this classic to life. His grandfather’s radio was a large box with many buttons and a light on the front. As a child, he experienced the story of Peter and his friend the bird—who team up to take on the wolf—right there on that radio. Prokofiev’s fairy tale came to life for him as vividly as a picture book. “Each character in the fairy tale comes to life through a specific musical instrument. It was so exciting that I believed there were little musicians sitting inside the radio.” And even today, a spell falls over the audience as soon as the violins play their adventurous theme for little Peter. Now Jürgen Wicht is a grandfather himself and performs the fairy tale for you on his little stage. Early in the morning, Peter opens the garden gate and walks out onto the big meadow. His grandfather scolds him because the gate is now wide open. “That’s dangerous. What if the wolf comes out of the forest?” But Peter isn’t afraid. Together with his friend, the little bird, he takes on the big bad wolf—who has just devoured the clumsy duck—and makes sure he can’t cause any more trouble.
