Rostock Thinks 365 Degrees Science Wavelength

With “Wellenlänge Wissenschaft ON TOUR,” the association Rostock denkt 365° brings science, researchers, and history(ies) to special locations throughout the city. The event series will be hosted at the Max-Samuel-Haus on October 8, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., featuring 10-minute presentations.
This edition deliberately differs from previous events: This time, the focus is not on the full “colorful” diversity of scientific topics. Instead, the evening is dedicated to a specific chapter in Rostock’s city history— Jewish life, persecution, and expulsion during the Nazi era, as well as questions of home, belonging, and memory.
Under the title “What Remains? Jewish Life Between Home, Persecution, and Memory,” the program spans a wide range of topics, from the history of the Theresienstadt ghetto and the fate of the Siegmann family from Rostock to the question of the significance of homes as places of religious identity, personal belonging, and memory. Music performed by students from hmt Rostock and insights into the history of ostracized music complement the evening’s academic and historical perspectives.

Program:

- Steffi Katschke, Max Samuel House: The Theresienstadt Ghetto

- Prof. Volker Ahmels, Center for Banned Music at hmt Rostock, and students from hmt: Introduction to Banned Music

- Prof. Soham Al-Suadi (Faculty of Theology, University of Rostock): Where Belonging Resides. The Home as a Place of Religious Identity

Musical performances by students of the hmt
