The French province of Champagne in the early 19th century: After the death of her husband, Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin (Haley Bennett) takes over the management of the family winery at the age of just 27 - a bold move at a time when there was no place for women in the business world. With determination and passion, the widow Clicquot maneuvered the company through turbulent times, laid the foundations for modern champagne production with her innovations and advanced to become the "Grande Dame of Champagne" with her house's exclusive sparkling wine.
