Kerim Pamuk humorously illustrates how cultural globalization shaped and influenced Europe and the Orient a thousand years ago.

WEED, COFFEE & EYELINER, or Why We’re All Orientals—A cabaret evening by and starring Kerim Pamuk about globalization a thousand years ago and today. About the value of exchange, communication, and the amusing consequences of isolation. You’ll laugh a lot, be amazed, and learn what our properly rinsed yogurt cup—the one we toss into the recycling bin—has to do with China’s quest for superpower status.

Why, for a thousand years, Europe was nothing more than Asia’s backyard in terms of cuisine, culture, and science. Why Arabs, Chinese, Indians, and Indonesians aren’t exactly fond of Europeans—and how “black gold” (pepper) became a panacea for Germans against constipation, erectile dysfunction, and melancholy.

K.K.&K. – An entertaining evening about cultural influences and linguistic blunders. About German treasures like coffee and the sofa, which we owe to the Arabs, and philological mishaps like “24/7” and “Ich bin fein damit,” which we owe to the Americans.
