A touch of Italy in Ludwigsburg near Greifswald
A charity concert will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Ludwigsburg Palace Chapel (Kirchweg 6 a, 17509 Ludwigsburg) to raise funds for a good cause. Starting at 4:00 p.m., Antara Menzel-Barbara, accompanied by soloists from the Greifswald Chamber Orchestra, will perform two masterpieces of Baroque music by Antonio Vivaldi: the classic “The Four Seasons” and “La tempesta di mare” (The Storm at Sea).
Admission is free. We ask for donations to the Förderverein Schloss- und Gutshofanlage Ludwigsburg e. V. (suggested amount: 20 euros, reduced rate: 10 euros). The net proceeds will be used to finance the Klinkowström Year 2027/2028.
Friedrich August von Klinkowström, the unjustly forgotten painter and friend of Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge, was born in Ludwigsburg in 1778. Two of his paintings hang in the palace chapel. His life’s journey took him from Swedish Pomerania via Danzig, Dresden, Hamburg, Paris, and Rome to Vienna, where he died in 1835. To mark his upcoming 250th birthday, the Friends Association is planning an anniversary program with regional partners, which will be launched on Klinkowström’s 249th birthday (August 31, 2027).
Antonio Vivaldi was born 100 years before Klinkowström. Both died in Vienna, where a street is still named after each of them today.
Antara Menzel-Barbara, a mechanical engineer and aerospace engineer, conducts research at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. He has played the violin since the age of six, attended music conservatory as a student, and later studied music in Cork, Ireland.
By the way: Before the concert begins, the Friends of the Music School will be selling coffee and cake in the castle courtyard on July 18 starting at 3:00 p.m.
