On the third weekend in August, the Vikings will once again make their way to the island city.
The 6th Viking Festival is just around the corner. On the third weekend in August, the Vikings will once again take over the island town and set up a large, authentic encampment at the Malchow Monastery, where visitors can experience the life and crafts of a Norse man in the Early Middle Ages.
Over the course of two days, there will be reenacted battles, weapon demonstrations and explanations, live medieval music, and rare crafts such as blacksmithing, horn carving, instrument making, textile crafts, and much more. Children can look forward to, among other things, a hands-on children’s blacksmithing workshop, archery, and in “Wiki-Land” there will be a puppet show, stories from “Leather Grandpa,” arts and crafts, face painting, catapult shooting, a small children’s carousel, and much more.
Anyone who’d like to can put their strength to the test in a Viking boat and explore Lake Malchow from the water.
Refreshments are also available, including mead, Striezel, hearty drinks at the tavern, delicious ice cream from “Eiskalten Ulrich,” rustic grilled fare, ostrich dishes, and soup—and so much more…
On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the town hall on the island will be stormed. The call goes out to all little Vikings (costumes welcome) to join forces with the big, strong men of the North to take over the great hall in Malchow Town Hall and hand over the key to the town only in exchange for a ransom. Loot is guaranteed!
Anyone who wants to help the mayor defend the town is welcome to bring Viking-appeasing offerings—such as mead, beer, gold, or sweets—directly to City Hall on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.
The Viking camp and Wiki-Land will be open continuously on both days!
Parking is available on both sides of Stämmenberg (approx. 350 m walk)
