Jutta Jacobi: Reading from “Queen Without a Country: Kristina of Sweden”
Christina (or Kristina) of Sweden was born 400 years ago. In the midst of the Thirty Years’ War, at the age of six, she lost her father, King Gustav Adolf II of Sweden, and soon succeeded him to the throne. Yet at the age of 27, she voluntarily abdicated the throne and went into exile in Rome.
Jutta Jacobi, a scholar of German literature and theater studies, has dedicated her latest book to this extraordinary woman “Queen Without a Country: Kristina of Sweden.” She will present it on the Island of Usedom, of which the queen was the sovereign.
