Usedom Music Festival: Christina Nilsson
Sweden's New Voice
with Christina Nilsson (soprano) and Magnus Svensson (piano)
Songs by Hugo Wolf, Jean Sibelius, Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, Gösta Nystroem, Ture Rangström, Richard Strauss
Christina Nilsson is Sweden’s new leading opera soprano. She made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival last year as Elisabeth in “Tannhäuser,” as Freia in “Rheingold,” and as the Third Norn in “Götterdämmerung.” That same year, she sang the title role in *Aida* at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and received the Swedish government’s Musikexportpriset for her outstanding achievements worldwide.
The celebrated Wagner singer is practically our neighbor: she hails from Ystad, which is served by the ferry from Swinemünde. For her visit to Usedom, she has brought along romantic songs from her homeland, Swedish songs of love and landscape by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, and rousing miniatures celebrating the joy of life by Richard Strauss.
