Joint cinema event of the town and the Kunstverein Ribnitz e.V.
Michael Triegel's painting differs vehemently from that of his Leipzig School colleagues, above all from that of his friend Neo Rauch. Triegel paints like the Old Masters and cites Michelangelo, Raphael and Dürer as his role models. In 2020, Triegel received an unusual commission: to paint the destroyed central section of the altar in Naumburg Cathedral. Almost 500 years earlier, the painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder had fallen victim to an iconoclasm; only the side wings remained and because there are no records of the depiction of the Virgin Mary with Child, Michael Triegel had to create a completely new old painting.
Director Paul Smaczny ("Die Thomaner") accompanied the painter Michael Triegel for several years and shows the creation of an important work of art in an extremely detailed and insightful way. Triegel not only opens the doors to his studio, but also provides deep insights into his understanding of life, art and religion.
