Special tour of the Müritzeum with a behind-the-scenes look
The oriole specimens in the Müritzeum’s current special exhibition are real eye-catchers, and they are all quite different in character. While three of the birds appear to be perched naturally on a real branch, with a nest recreated nearby, the oriole in the foreground sits on an artificial branch. This specimen of a female oriole was created specifically for the special exhibition by Giulia Bianconi, the taxidermist at the Müritzeum. This specimen exemplifies a very modern approach to a fascinating profession. Modern taxidermy and conservation techniques constitute a craft, scientific, and creative discipline whose methods and procedures are constantly evolving. This is precisely what makes the profession so appealing to Ms. Bianconi, and she will discuss this during a one-hour special guided tour offering a behind-the-scenes look at the State Natural History Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Due to limited space in the collections, the number of participants for the tour is limited, and advance registration is required. You can easily register by calling 03991 633 680.
The tour is free with admission to the Müritzeum. Afterward, visitors can explore the special exhibition “Art & Nature – Collection Meets Studio” and the permanent exhibition at the Nature Discovery Center on their own.
