"Who doesn't want a paradise on earth? / But the circumstances, will they allow it?" - Mackie Messer and his gang, beggar boss Peachum and police chief "Tiger" Brown, Mrs. Peachum and daughter Polly, the divesters Jenny and Lucy Brown, beggars, whores, street bandits and businessmen: In a new theater sermon, Kristina Kühnbaum-Schmidt, regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany, takes a Christian-theological look at Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's famous work The Threepenny Opera in Patrick Wengenroth's production at the Mecklenburg State Theater - and traces ethical questions based on Brecht's thoughts on "the uncertainty of human conditions", which are processed in dialogues and song lyrics.
