April 27, 2026 marks the 134th anniversary of Agathe Lindner-Welk's birth. Reason enough to dedicate ourselves to the biographical data and merits of Ehm Welk's second wife in the "Literature Café" format.
As we know, most successful men are accompanied by outstanding female personalities. Appreciations of these are rarely found in the most conspicuous places.
That is why we want to devote ourselves to the biographical data and merits of Ehm Welk's second wife in the "Literature Café" format.
For 42 years, she was his muse, friend, first critic, secretary, advisor and representative in financial matters. She always put her own writing skills at the service of her husband, worked for him in the archives, researched in libraries, tracked down ideas for new books and exchanged numerous letters in order to obtain the information he needed for his books.
Agathe and Ehm complemented each other in a special way. She wrote: "My real chronology only begins with Ehm Welk (...)".
You can read about him in the novel "High Command", written in 1939:
"I present this book to the commander-in-chief of my life and work, Agathe Lindner, my beloved wife, as a report that the high inner command to love and kindness, which was only given to my life and work through the existence of this woman ..."
In addition to Agathe's own novels, she published the labor-intensive volume "Geliebtes Leben" (Beloved Life) in 1959 - we will also be hearing from it on this Saturday afternoon.
