Children, Theatre & Stage

Music theater for everyone by Lucy Landymore / libretto by Stephan Knies / co-production with the Heidenheim Opera Festival / revival

The Wizard of Oz, also known to many in its Russian version as the Wizard of the Emerald City, is as well-known in the USA as Hansel and Gretel is here in Germany. The story of Dorothy from Kansas, who defeats the wicked witch of the West in the Land of Oz with courage and imagination, has also been successful in Europe since the 1936 film starring Judy Garland. In this production, not only the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion help out, but also the children in the audience.

director Christina Gegenbauer and the famous performance artist duo VestAndPage (Verena Stenke and Andrea Pagnes) as the set team are presenting this Wizard of Oz for the first time at the Volkstheater Rostock.

A great piece of contemporary music theater that fascinates young and old alike and intuitively offers contemporary music for children beyond kitschy clichés.
