Planting trees together
Under the motto "Planting trees together", SoLaWi Klein Trebbow invites you to a planting event in the garden on Saturday, March 28 from 11 am to 6 pm. Helping hands from the region are very welcome.
SoLaWi Klein Trebbow is a small-scale mixed farm that produces organic food with the support of people from the region. Members support the farm in a spirit of solidarity and receive fresh food as well as insights and opportunities to help shape the farm. At the same time, the SoLaWi is an educational and meeting place for sustainable agriculture, climate protection and the conscious use of natural resources.
Hedges and a micro-forest are to be created during the planting campaign. The aim is to improve the growing conditions for vegetables in the long term and at the same time create a habitat for many animal and plant species.
"With targeted planting of trees and shrubs, we can significantly improve the microclimate on our land," explains Christoph Schwitzke, biologist and gardener at SoLaWi Klein Trebbow. "Hedges take the wind out of the area, protect the soil from erosion and reduce evaporation. Especially in view of increasingly frequent dry periods, this is an important step towards being able to grow vegetables sustainably in the future."
The planting takes place on areas that have been secured for the long term. The farm has been working with the Kulturland cooperative for many years. Last year, they succeeded in jointly acquiring agricultural land, which will now be permanently preserved for organic farming. Interested people can continue to participate in securing this land through cooperative shares.
The planting campaign is deliberately intended as a community event for everyone who wants to get active together and support local agriculture.
Anyone who would like to lend a hand and put a few trees in the ground is cordially invited to come along.
