The gallery in the monastery features etchings and paintings by Monika Michalko from various phases of her career—vibrant visual worlds that straddle the realms of memory, imagination, and abstraction.
In the exhibition “The Patterns Were Intact,” artist Monika Michalko presents imagined visual worlds full of magnificent colors, shapes, and shades.
On view is a selection of etchings and paintings from various creative phases. Newer works are juxtaposed with older pieces, offering a focused look at Michalko’s work in drawing and painting. Her works leave room for viewers’ own associations and transport them into imaginatively charged scenes.
Monika Michalko studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts under Norbert Schwontkowski. Her works contain references to classical modernism—including Paul Klee, Kazimir Malevich, and Joan Miró—as well as influences from her travels to Asia and North Africa.
The gallery cordially invites you to the exhibition opening on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 5 p.m. The introduction will be given by Andrea Hildebrandt, artist and art historian. Ronny Bruch will provide musical accompaniment for the opening with live looping and guitar.
