Griebenow Castle, with its park and estate grounds, is considered to be an outstanding architectural testimony to the Swedish imperial era in northern Germany and an unusually well-preserved manor house.
Griebenow Castle is the core of the absolutist-style castle and estate complex, the culmination of its building, axis and spatial composition. Over the centuries, the estate was renovated, altered and rebuilt several times. The Baroque design principles were generally taken into account, which means that the overarching design ideas can still be seen throughout the castle and estate complex today.
The approx. 14-hectare palace park forms the main part of the Griebenow park and gardens.
Since the mid-1980s, the Baroque Park of Griebenow has been brought back to life with park maintenance measures by the Baroque Park Griebenow e.V.. These activities were gradually extended to the entire area of the former estate. In 2025, the castle building was reopened after many years of renovation. For around 10 years, various garden conservation concepts have been developed for different areas of the park in order to develop sustainable structures in the grounds that meet the interests of the association.
The guided tour of the park aims to illustrate the problems and opportunities for development and provide an update on the exemplary revitalization of the grounds.
