THE JOY OF AGING – A Musical Reading with Christiane Rösinger
Christiane Rösinger is a musician, a Kreuzberg resident, and a grandmother. As far as she’s concerned, things could go on like this forever—if it weren’t for growing older and financial worries. Aging can’t be stopped, but to make a little money, Christiane decides to write a guide to aging. Without illusions, but with plenty of energy. An energetic call to no longer put up with the way society treats women who are no longer young.
Yet it’s not at all easy to find a relaxed attitude toward aging on one’s own. This is evident from the conversations with her friends, whose varied experiences and opinions reveal a wide range: there’s the dog lover, the self-improvement enthusiast, and the woman who’s moved to the countryside. Not a single positive role model in sight. Where are the role models? And above all: What good is any of this if you suddenly find yourself in the stroke unit at the hospital?
Not a self-help book, but a biting and humorous book full of memories, thoughts, and stories that ultimately offers some serious advice: complain less, live more. Because being old means being free.
The musician Christiane Rösinger was an underground star in her youth; in her later years, she still is. Many consider her “Germany’s most important living songwriter” (Frankfurter Rundschau). In addition to music, she writes journalism and for the stage. She published her first book in 2008. She has directed several of her own plays at the Theater Hebbel am Ufer.
