Behind “The Humming Trees” are violinist Ingeborg Freytag, guitarist and singer Jörg Schneider, and double bassist Franz Schwarznau. A string band in the almost classical sense, then. No trees, no wood; no wood, no instruments; no instruments, no sound. The Humming Trees’ roots run deep into the heart of American folk and blues music. The trio not only plays their own songs but also pays deep homage to some of the key figures of Mississippi Delta blues, including Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, and Skip James.
Jörg Schneider and Franz Schwarznau have been playing together since the beginning of the millennium, and their paths have crossed with Ingeborg Freytag’s time and again. Now it’s time to embark on a longer journey together—entirely acoustic, stripped down to vocals and the three instruments, with minimal technical setup. So that you can even hear the trees humming along when the Humming Trees start to play.
