DIE GUTEN don’t just play for their audience—they play with it. The humor springs from the spontaneous interaction between the band and the audience, who aren’t merely consuming a pre-packaged performance but are part of a lively show where the stage doesn’t end at its edge: The audience becomes the target of the charming, quick-witted banter and suddenly finds itself as the star of a situational comedy in which it is teased just as cheekily as it is affectionately. This creates moments that make the evening truly unique.
Unlike in pure stand-up comedy, music provides the framework for the show. DIE GUTEN perform hits spanning 100 years of pop history, and they do so with an incredible knack for reading the audience: 15 years as an event band have taught them to feel the pulse of the room. They play the songs the audience wants—often before the audience has even thought to ask for them. And as if it were no big deal, their stripped-down lineup of vocals, drums, and electric piano—just the two of them—still delivers a sound on stage that’s bigger than you’d expect from just two musicians—all live, all intelligently arranged, all played with virtuosity.
This combination of live music and interactive comedy results in an extremely entertaining show. In addition to their live performances throughout Germany, DIE GUTEN are also known to a wider audience in northern Germany through their radio and television appearances, as well as their role as the show band for the NDR Summer Tour.
