'Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen' (2025), in Julian Radlmaier's new film, the main characters stumble together through a place of contrasts, take on the ghosts of the past and share dreams that are older than they realize. A small East German town becomes the setting for a story about cohesion and community, about Germany and its workers and the longing for a different life.
Two women meet in Sangerhausen. Ursula (Clara Schwinning), a waitress with a broken heart, and Neda (Maral Keshavarz), an Iranian YouTuber with a broken arm. One summer evening, Ursula falls in love with a mysterious musician from the big city, while Neda is convinced that she has recognized an old friend from Tehran in an equally enigmatic street sweeper. The twisted paths of chance bring the two women together on a ghost hunt in the mountains...
