'Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen' (2025), in Julian Radlmaier's new film, the main characters stumble together through a place of contrasts, take on the ghosts of the past and share dreams that are older than they realize. A small East German town becomes the setting for a story about cohesion and community, about Germany and its workers and the longing for a different life.
Two women meet in Sangerhausen. Ursula (Clara Schwinning), a waitress with a broken heart, and Neda (Maral Keshavarz), an Iranian YouTuber with a broken arm. One summer evening, Ursula falls in love with a mysterious musician from the big city, while Neda is convinced that she has recognized an old friend from Tehran in an equally enigmatic street sweeper.
