A lecture about the former inner-German border. Frank Schamuhn, former border guard of the Federal Border Guard in Ratzeburg reports
Inner German border? What was that? More and more people, especially younger people, can no longer imagine it. Fortunately, the division of Germany ended with reunification on October 3, 1990. The opening of the border on November 9, 1989, a historic day in the memory of the Germans, was the starting signal. What did a border on the Priwall mean in concrete terms, where the world came to an end from the West? What were the sometimes tragic, sometimes amusing incidents? Frank Schamuhn, a former officer of the Federal Border Guard, tells us what the situation was like at the border fence before 1989, stories of escape and despair between fences and mines.
