Dancers bring Rügen's chalk cliffs to life German dance company shows homage to romantic Friedrich at the Putbus Theater Putbus. The German Dance Company from Neustrelitz is coming to Rügen on September 22nd with a special piece. In keeping with the celebrations for the 250th birthday of the Romantic star Caspar David Friedrich. They will be performing the piece "Death and the Maiden" as a tribute to the artist and his famous chalk cliffs in the Stubbenkammer. The announcement sounds promising. The ensemble will bring the well-known work of art to life. "This makes a key work of Romantic painting the starting point for a journey of discovery into the inner world of the figures, a landscape of the soul," says the artists in their announcement. It becomes exciting when individual characters emerge from the landscape, form couples and discover longings. Image, music and dance merge into a new work of art that touches the viewer in an unexpected way. The artists make references to Franz Schubert's "Death and the Maiden", which forms the philosophical and tonal counterpart to Friedrich's painting. The music and the painting by the two contemporaries literally oscillate between being and passing away, abyss and idyll. Lars Scheibner's choreography plays with the tension between these poles. The dance and musical journey through time begins at 6 p.m. in the Putbus Theater. Tickets are available here, at the Kurverwaltung Putbus or in the online store.
