Shanty, maritime folk and sailor's yarn from Rostock
Blowing maritime music and shanties from Rostock out into the world - that's the mission of the seven Küstenjungs! Between 2015 and 2019, some of today's crew took the somewhat mothballed genre by storm, taking everything that wasn't nailed down on the shanty circuit: Radio and television, harbor taverns and shark boats, churches and concert halls, grandma's birthday party and open-air stages, sailors' clubs and studios. No matter what the barometer says, Die Blowboys will find the right course for every event. They continue to focus on finely tuned vocals in their own arrangements, while the additional instruments - accordion, guitar, piano, double bass and percussion - would make any navy band green with envy and provide real pressure both unplugged and amplified.
With their tour for the new album Don't Give a Ship, the Blowboys are making a clear statement: they are thinking beyond narrow musical boundaries and taking the shanty genre into new waters. Traditional sea shanties meet modern harmonies, fresh arrangements and urban timbres - a contemporary reinterpretation of maritime music. In this way, the Blowboys remain a brain-gain guarantee for maritime music, an inclusive society and themselves. The Blowboys - an attitude to life!
