A co-production of the Kreisdiakonisches Werk Stralsund e. V., Theater Vorpommern, and the Stralsunder Werkstätten.
Frankenstein and his monster are the myth of modernity, whose roots stretch all the way back to the fire-bringing Prometheus and whose vision continues to influence even the most modern technologies. At the heart of all these stories lies the human longing and hubris to overcome death. Viktor Frankenstein must painfully come to terms with the fact that this also means overcoming humanity itself. He loses everything he loves.
The ECKIGEN’s attempt to understand Frankenstein’s creature in the here and now follows Mary Shelley’s original story but transposes it to a near future set in the Bodden landscape of Western Pomerania. Franz Triebenecker’s production is accompanied by an experimental soundscape: Under the direction of Friederike Gawenda and Ana Bulović, the voices of the “Eckigen” give rise to a distinct musical language, enhanced by spatial sound design and live voice modulation. Inspired by this play and its music, Judith Tiedtke created the choreography.
What can Frankenstein accomplish in our world tomorrow, or what have humans always done—and will continue to do—to themselves and their own kind? DIE ECKIGEN uncover a horror story that concerns us all.
