The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra plays works by Pēteris Vasks and Peter Tchaikovsky
Soloist: Stanko Madic, violin
Conductor: Nayden Todorov
Pēteris Vasks: Violin Concerto No. 1 "Distant Light" ("Fernes Licht")
Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F minor op. 36
"Most people today have no faith, no love and no ideals. The spiritual dimension is lost. I want to feed the soul. That's what I preach in my works", confessed Pēteris Vasks. He wrote his 1st violin concerto "Distant Light" in 1996/97 for his Latvian compatriot Gidon Kremer. This work is also about using music to alleviate suffering and soothe grief. The concertmaster of the Munich Radio Orchestra, Stanko Madic, knows and loves Vask's Violin Concerto, which he already recorded in 2019 under the direction of "his" chief conductor Ivan Repusic.
As so often, Peter Tchaikovsky wrestles with the forces of fate in his Symphony No. 4. The final movement brings the breakthrough, it has the character of a folk festival. "Rejoice in the joy of others - and life is bearable after all!" said Tchaikovsky.
