The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works by Peter Tchaikovsky and Dmitri Shostakovich at the opening of the 2025 / 2026 season of the Ernst Barlach Theater Güstrow. The soloist is the internationally renowned British pianist Freddy Kempf. Conductor: General Music Director Daniel Geiss.
August 9, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death. The Neubrandenburg Philharmonic pays tribute to the great symphonist of the 20th century in its first Philharmonic concert of the new season. His "Ninth", which was composed shortly after the end of the Second World War, will be performed.
One generally expects pathos and monumentality from a Shostakovich symphony. That the composer would celebrate the victory of the Red Army over Germany was considered a certainty in the Soviet Union at the time. However, Shostakovich surprised everyone with a cheerfully parodic work that is formally in the tradition of Haydn and Rossini.
