The jazz band Swinging Seagulls specializes in swing and the standards of the early 1920s and 1930s.
Saxophonist and singer Andreas Pasternack is considered one of the best-known and most beloved musicians in Germany, but he has also captivated audiences in Japan, Poland, and the U.S. He leads his own big band, hosts the weekly NDR radio show “Jazztime,” and is a recipient of the Culture Award from the Hanseatic City of Rostock and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Seagulls have been thrilling audiences on stages across the state and in Berlin since 2016.
The well-known jazz musician Jim McIntosh recently wrote in the British jazz magazine “Just Jazz”: “I was curious to hear how this fusion of styles would sound. Well, what a wonderful surprise! ... All the different styles blend into a refreshingly new interpretation of the music ... expanding the sound into something special that goes far beyond a quartet... I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with the Singing Seagulls. Hats off to a wonderful
band—great jazz, entertaining, fresh, highly professional, and, most importantly to me, SWINGING!”
