Piano music for a sunset. Romantic, virtuosic & dreamy, from classical to jazz, from Bach to Brubeck and from Gerlach to Coldplay - with Lutz Gerlach and Ulrike Mai - solo & four-handed on grand piano & keys right on the beach in Dierhagen.
21 years ago, the pianist and composer Lutz Gerlach and the television station Arte France were looking for an unusual location for a special piano concert. Together with the Dierhagen spa administration, they found a wide spot on the beach in Dierhagen. For the first time, a stage was erected in the sand and chairs, a sound system and, of course, a grand piano were transported there with tractors and heavy equipment. The first concert took place in 2005 with great audience interest and was recorded in its entirety by Arte France as a video. For 21 years now, pianists Ulrike Mai and Lutz Gerlach have been shaping the musical program with new repertoire (this year from their latest CD "Skywalk") as well as pieces of music that have always been a part of it, such as "Sunset Piano" by Lutz Gerlach (composed especially for the event) or "O Sole mio" and "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles. When the sun has set, "Und immer wieder geht die Sonne auf" by Udo Jürgens will be played as a consolation.
