The summer concert series at the historic St. Mary’s Church in Barth continues on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. with a special highlight. The guest performer is the internationally renowned organist, composer, and musicologist Prof. Peter Planyavsky from Vienna.
Peter Planyavsky studied organ and church music in Vienna and supplemented his training with practical experience working for an organ builder. From 1969 to 2004, he served at the famous St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, including several years as the cathedral’s music director and many years as its organist.
In addition, as a professor of organ and improvisation at the Vienna University of Music, he shaped generations of church musicians over the course of three decades. Concert tours and recordings have taken him to numerous countries in Europe as well as to North America, Australia, Asia, and South Africa.
In addition to his work as an organist and conductor, Peter Planyavsky is also active as an author, composer, and musicologist. He was awarded the State Prize for Music in recognition of his compositional work.
