The summer concert series in the Protestant church in Binz will take place again this year. Experience concerts in a special atmosphere every Monday and Thursday from June 22 to August 27.

Günter Baby Sommer (drums) in a quartet with Thomas Brückner (recitation), Micha Winkler (trombone) and Uwe Kropinski (guitar) present texts by Johannes Bobrowski (German poet and storyteller) and music.

ARTISTS OF THE EVENING

Günter Baby Sommer (percussion)
Born in Dresden, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik for Music "Carl Maria von Weber". After playing in jazz groups, Sommer made the leap into the international music scene in the GDR. His solo playing sensitized him to artistic collaborations with writers such as Günter Grass. As a professor at the Dresden Academy of Music, he influenced the professional on the professional communication of contemporary jazz to subsequent generations. Günter Baby Sommer is one of the most important representatives of contemporary European jazz.

Thomas Brückner (recitation)
Thomas Brückner, originally from Görlitz, initially studied African studies, literature and cultural studies in Leipzig. He then taught at universities in Leipzig, Essen, Mainz, Berlin, Växjö and Aachen. He has been involved in the organization of literary festivals and is now active as a translator, author, cultural mediator, speaker and reader.

Uwe Kropinski (guitar)
Born in East Berlin, Uwe Kropinski initially played as a rock musician in the 1960s. He also accompanied his girlfriend and singer Tamara Danz. At the beginning of the 1970s, he studied classical guitar in Berlin.He then began his career as a free jazz and improvisation musician in various jazz formations. He developed new playing and percussion techniques using a guitar with 39 frets that was specially made for him. Today, Uwe Kropinski is one of the most important German jazz guitarists.

Micha Winkler (trombone)
Born in Meißen in 1972, he began studying jazz trombone and arranging & composition at the "Carl Maria von Weber" Academy of Music in Dresden in 1991.
Micha Winkler has led the "Dresden Bigband" e.V., a jazz orchestra with professional and amateur musicians, since 1998. The band has successfully taken part in several national and international big band competitions. Since 2006, he has been a lecturer for jazz trombone at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and the Landesgymnasium für Musik, where he also directs a trombone ensemble. Since graduating, Micha Winkler has played in several professional bands.
