The program spans the ages, from early music to jazz, and weaves together the artists’ diverse musical influences into a varied program that traverses space and time. The program features unusual arrangements of old chorales, original compositions influenced by collaborations with musicians from other cultures, orchestral soundscapes on the organ, tangos, and rousing improvisations. Volker Jaekel, an exceptional organist and jazz pianist, coaxes unusual sounds and earthy rhythms from the organ. Listeners will have the opportunity to rediscover the time-honored church organ for themselves. The musicians will fill the entire church with sound and move through the nave, performing on the Chinese mouth organ (sheng) and the medieval portative organ. The organ’s diverse and fascinating tones will engage in a musical dialogue with Gert Anklam’s resonant saxophone.
