Reading & Discussion | Moderation: Ulrich Gutmair (taz)

Steffi Hentschke traveled to Israel and Palestine for the first time in 2012. The young journalist writes her reports about occupation tourism, on the beach in Tel Aviv she asks herself why she feels at home here - despite the war and violence. She travels to the West Bank, Iran and Lebanon and decides to become a Middle East correspondent. In this book, she combines personal experience with political analysis, describes the developments before and after October 7, 2023 and struggles to find an attitude that can withstand contradictions. A book for all those who believe that complexity is not an obstacle, but the only way to talk about this conflict.

Steffi Hentschke, born in 1988, is a Middle East correspondent for DIE ZEIT and is highly regarded for her analysis of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She regularly works for the Federal Agency for Civic Education, speaks as an expert and moderates discussion panels.
