State Youth Orchestra M-V plays works by Emilie Meyer, Marie Jaëll and Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky under the direction of Anna Hoesel
In February 2026, the State Youth Orchestra of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern once again presents itself with an extraordinary, highly romantic program: In its winter work phase, it is working on Overture No. 2 by Emilie Mayer from Mecklenburg under the direction of Annalena Hoesel.
This is followed by La Légende des ours by the French composer Marie Jaëll, who is still little known in this country. Soprano Myriam Anna Dewald is the soloist for these "bear songs". After the interval, the famous Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky will be performed.
Founded in 1991, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Youth Orchestra is a selective orchestra that brings together the best young musicians aged between 14 and 20, primarily pupils from our state's music schools or winners of the Jugend musiziert competition. The project of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Music Council enables top young musicians to play in a large symphony orchestra, learn world music literature and work with internationally renowned soloists and conductors. Stanley Dodds has been the overall artistic director since summer 2012.
The orchestra comes together in two work phases per year. Up to eight hours of concentrated rehearsals are on the program every day, with the young musicians being coached by experienced orchestral musicians from orchestras in our state. Several concerts throughout the state conclude the work phases.
