Presentation and Discussion with Dr. Jan Müller
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ahead of the State Election: Democracy and the Culture of Remembrance
The 2026 state election could mark a turning point for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
According to polls, established coalition models may not be enough to secure a majority. At the same time, the far-right AfD party is leading in the polls. Democracy and civil society are under pressure. But what solutions do the political parties have to offer here? What forms of democracy do they favor? How do they intend to protect democracy?
Dr. Jan Müller (University of Rostock) will provide a brief overview of these topics. We will also examine the parties’ statements on the culture of remembrance, as the past is also a subject of controversy. Engaging with the past always means engaging with the future as well.
Afterward, there will be plenty of time for your questions, experiences, and discussions. No prior knowledge is required—everyone is warmly invited to listen, reflect, and discuss with one another.
