Spirit of Smokie
Smokie is a British pop-rock band that was one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and 1980s—with hits like “Living Next Door to Alice,” “If You Think You Know How to Love Me,” “Oh Carol,” “I’ll Meet You at Midnight,” and many more, they stormed the charts.
The original lineup consisted of Chris Norman (vocals, guitar), Terry Uttley (bass, vocals), Alan Silson (guitar, vocals), and Pete Spencer (drums, vocals). The band played in the classic beat lineup—two guitars, bass, and drums—and stood out for their excellent harmonies.
Today, none other than Dean Barton (Alan Barton’s son)—who has inherited his father’s unmistakable rough yet soulful voice—takes the stage as frontman.
At his side is a close friend of his father’s, lead guitarist Andy Whelan, who was Chris Norman’s guitarist for many years. Graham Kearns plays bass; he also toured with Alan Barton and other bands such as Sad Café and Sisters of Mercy.
World-class drummer Mick Bedford—who has toured and produced with artists such as Chris de Burgh, Sting, and Elton John—delivers the band’s signature, innovative beats. Rounding out the lineup is keyboardist Jez Smith, also known for his work with the successful British band John Lee’s Barclay James Harvest.
SPIRIT OF SMOKIE carry on the legacy of the great era of the ’70s and ’80s, continuing the powerful Smokie sound and thrilling their international audience with Smokie’s greatest hits.
