"Christmas and New Year through the ages - the imperial era and the 1960s in Teterow" combines two themes in this year's last special exhibition of the year at the Teterow City Museum in and around Malchiner Tor.
Typical customs, long-lasting traditions and socially determined changes in rituals are made visible. While Christmas was celebrated as the biggest Christian festival of the year during the imperial era, the birth of Jesus Christ played no official role at all under socialist conditions in the GDR. However, Christmas remained the holiday when relatives visited each other, presents were exchanged and there was plenty to eat and drink.
Toys and interiors, newspaper advertisements and press articles reflect the spirit of the times and show how traditions were passed on and changed.
