On August 6, 2026, the renowned Central German vocal ensemble under the direction of Gudrun Hartmann will perform an atmospheric a cappella concert with works by Scandinavian and Baltic composers in the Kulturkirche St. Jakobi Stralsund.
Dusky midnight sun, deep fjords and the untamed power of nature: with its new summer program "Nordic Glow", the Canzonetta Chamber Choir Leipzig brings the acoustic vastness and emotional depth of Northern Europe to the Baltic coast.
Scandinavian choral music is far more than just sounds and rhythms; it is an experience that warms the soul. The program invites the audience on a musical journey through the cycle of the seasons - beginning and ending in the bright summer. The audience encounters a very special "trinity" of Nordic music: untamed nature, a deep faith and firm roots in folk traditions. The boundaries between sacred hymns and nature-loving folk music are often blurred in a fascinating way.
From the icy peaks of Norway to the picturesque forests of Sweden and the tranquil lakes of Finland and the Baltic states - the choice of music reflects the scenic contrasts of the north. Sometimes rugged and rough, sometimes soft and shrouded in mystery, the choir captures the world-famous, often melancholy yearning of the Scandinavian sound. The audience can look forward to the sparkling Evening Song by Hugo Alfvén or the effervescent joie de vivre of a traditional Norwegian wedding march. In addition to atmospheric landscape images, existential questions about love, death, home and wanderlust characterize the choral poetry.
Enthusiasm that you can hear
This demanding program is presented by the Canzonetta Chamber Choir Leipzig under the direction of Gudrun Hartmann. The ensemble brings together up to 24 excellently trained and passionate singers from all over central Germany. During intensive rehearsal phases, the rich diversity of the individual voices merges into the balanced, homogeneous choral sound for which the ensemble is known. Artistic ambition meets pure musical joy, resulting in music of captivating emotional radiance.
