Expressions on Canvas and Paper
Above all, I am a painter and draftsman with a great fondness for powerful, sometimes unusual forms. Exploring symbols and codes has been my central artistic theme for many years.
Signs decode events in the environment, provide clues and explanations, and stand as synonyms for the familiar. The dark forms that emerge in my works against a light background often seem to refer to concrete, representational subjects, but rarely do so. All these forms stand on their own; they exist independently.
My intention is always to create a moment of confusion when such a deliberately placed sign confidently evokes something familiar and raises questions about a supposedly known meaning.
