ABOUT THE FILM:
The film is based on Hape Kerkeling’s autobiography of the same name and focuses on the entertainer’s childhood memories. The film begins with nine-year-old Hans-Peter, who grows up in the Ruhr region in the early 1970s and, even back then, never misses an opportunity to confidently entertain his audience—especially family and friends—with humor. Eager to learn, he soaks up the gossip from the customers at Grandma Änne’s store and performs some parodies at the wild family parties. Little Hape’s loving upbringing is largely in the hands of his two grandmothers. When Hape’s mother loses her sense of smell and taste due to a chronic illness and becomes increasingly depressed, his father can only watch helplessly. Hape clings all the more to his comedic talent to help his mother through these difficult times.
