Audio Walk and Performance by Fachbetrieb Rita Grechen
SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL celebrated its world premiere in January 2024 at the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden. The play by fachbetrieb rita grechen tells the long history of the “KdF seaside resort” in Prora, from its founding as a Nazi vacation complex and instrument of Nazi propaganda to its capitalist co-optation as a modern-day vacation destination. In its original form, the play is conceived for a stage space. In Prora, the play can be performed at the actual site of the events and requires no artificial set design. For this reason, the touring version of SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL was conceived as an audio walk with performative elements. The audience does not sit on chairs in a theater auditorium watching a play; instead, spectators experience an adapted version of SELF CARE STRANDBEFEHL at various locations and can directly perceive the building and grounds from different perspectives. Thanks to generous funding, admission remains free. The performance is preceded by a half-hour discussion at 6:30 p.m. with the director and cast members. It begins at 7:00 p.m.
