Lecture given on the occasion of the presentation of the new issue of *Stralsunder Hefte für Geschichte, Kultur und Alltag* by Diana Meyen and Anke Neumeister, German Maritime Museum, Stralsund.
In their slide presentation, Diana Meyen and Anke Neumeister—two staff members from the Communications and Marketing Department at the German Oceanographic Museum—take the audience on an exciting journey through the modernization of the MEERESMUSEUM site. They recount the milestones of this ambitious construction project—such as the delivery of the massive aquarium panels manufactured in Japan—as well as the many challenges that had to be overcome.
Photographer Anke Neumeister accompanied the construction phase throughout and documented the work up close. With an eye for detail, she captured many moving, quirky, and once-in-a-lifetime moments with her camera. For example, the construction of the new building for the large aquarium, or the ten-meter-high Caribbean reef, which made the aquarists look very small at times while they were working on the decorations. Thus, it’s not just the archaeological finds in the choir of the Katharinenhalle that are a discovery.
Following the lecture, the articles in the new issue and their authors will be briefly introduced.
