Richard Wagner Association Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V. Impressions and experiences of the 1st Bayreuth Festival 1876 Moderation: Dr. Ute Lemm
In the summer of 1876, the Schwerin court lady Paula von Bülow attended the first Bayreuth Festival. There she met artists from the Schwerin court theater such as Carl Hill. The baritone had inspired Richard Wagner and was therefore engaged for the first Bayreuth performance of the "Ring des Nibelungen". Paula von Bülow's impressions of the days in the Franconian province bring the festival atmosphere of 1876 to life. To mark the 150th anniversary of the first Bayreuth Festival, the Richard Wagner Association Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V. invites you to an evening of readings and lectures at werk3. Kerstin Westphal and Christoph Reiche from the Mecklenburg State Theater will read, Prof. Michael Goden (Lübeck) will report on stage innovations in Wagner's Gesamtkunstwerk. Schwerin historian Dr. Bernd Kasten will use historical images of the city of Schwerin to present a time of upheaval in which the railroad replaced the stagecoach, the first telephone was installed in Schwerin and the Grand Duke of Schwerin was involved in the first major fundraising campaign in the history of German patronage: the Schwerin court also bought patronage certificates from Richard Wagner to help realize the festival dream.
