Romantic spirituality as a commonality between the paintings of C.D. Friedrich and the prose of Stefan Chwin"

The lecture discusses the contemporary literary dimensions of romantic spirituality, which are known from the paintings of Caspar David Friedrich. The categories of postmodern Romanticism, melancholy and mood will be discussed as common spaces in the paintings of the representative of German Romanticism and in the selected books by Stefan Chwin ("Death in Gdansk", "The Governess"). The lecture will also explain how the painterly aspects of Romanticism can function in literary works. The general aim of the lecture is to show that the sensibility and mood characteristic of Friedrich's paintings and the works of the contemporary Polish writer are still a valid element of subjectivity today. And the experience of lack can become an impetus to find the dynamics of life.
